The Calling
If you are called to be a midwife, be patient as you respond to the call.
Listen to the reasons why you think you should go forward.
Ask yourself these questions:
Do you want to improve the health status of pregnant women and their families in your community?
Can you make a commitment and keep it?
Do you enjoy talking with and teaching women?
Are you willing to work long and hard to help the birth of those beautiful babies come safely into the world?
Are you willing to earn a degree or certification?
The basic requirements for entering a midwife school or apprenticeship often are:
A high school diploma or GED
Strong reading and comprehension skills
Strong writing and communication skills-Basic math skills
Basic biology-Understanding of the reproductive system
Stamina and endurance
ICTC believes the power of midwifery is the ability to connect a woman's life experience to her practice.
ICTC believes that every woman is a potential midwife.
Relevant life experience could be:
Birthing or caring for children
Working with pregnant women
Helping families or neighbors
Participating with faith-based women's group
Any experience that you believe has prepared you for this profession
